The opportunity to walk away with a least 1 portrait from a complete stranger in any place I may be visiting is beyond satisfying and often difficult to explain to others.
If you think about it, strangers provide us with the chance to potentially understand viewpoints which may be completely foreign to us and in addition, their reaction to us could possibly force us to reevaluate the way we present ourselves to others. In any case, I constantly seek out to meet people even if means not ever striking up an encounter with them later on.
Originally from California but now residing in Baltimore, Jay was a fellow photographer we encountered while touring Eastern State Penitentiary. When I requested a portrait of him, his exact words were "Oh really...nobody has ever asked me before." I love taking portraits of people who are not necessarily seeking the attention.
