Publish What You Love

The work you display in your portfolio is a picture of work you’ll do in the future. If you don’t want to do more of it, don’t display it.

One of the biggest mistakes I feel I see a lot of photographer doing lately is this need to dedicate too much time in creating work they feel will hopefully appeal to everyone. I get it. In today’s market, you feel tempted to sell yourself to everyone but the reality is that learning how to objectively edit and curate your own work is super important. If you don’t curate, you’ll have people knocking at your door pitching you work that you’re not even remotely interested in but they’ll assume you are because what you’re sharing either on your site or Instagram gives the impression that you “photograph everything.” What you don’t share is just as important as what you do. Period.
