I want to be the kind of person where people want to have a cup of coffee with me, instead of being the guy everyone tries to avoid because he’s just going to pitch me something.

My all-time favorite humanitarian photographer and best selling author David duChemin was interviewed in how he uses social media to grow his business. The underlying message in the interview is for you to rethink social media as a way to create conversations with your audience rather than obsess over it being a way for you to sell something.

Either I’m horrible at marketing my prints or I’ve fully grasp the gist behind David’s words because I can’t recall the last time I mentioned that some of my favorite photographs are available for purchase until now. It’s always exciting when you discover that people are willing to pay for your work but it’s equally rewarding when you’ve establish connections with people who care and are as involved in something as you are.
